Over the years I’ve been blessed to have met individuals who shared their life experiences with me. Whether sitting on a park bench, riding on a bus or an airplane, or even relaxing on a beach lounger, I’ve never met a stranger. I’ve literally listened to hundreds of lifetime experiences, both good and bad, and found each and every one of them to be enriching. Their stories touched my heart and my soul, sometimes in unexpected ways. Often I would find myself shedding tears alongside the one sitting beside me, recounting memories of mental, emotional and sometimes physical wounds inflicted long ago. Their names and faces have faded from my memory, but, their struggles inside their life boxes, those invisible prisons without bars, left their mark forever imprinted on my heart. Each story was unique, yet I saw common threads that could apply to the lives of many others and even my own life journey.
In truth, we all have been ensnared inside the walls of our invisible prisons created by our life experiences at one time or another. The stories in this book reflect the constant struggles we face as we traverse our life’s journey. Every journey has life lessons. With my imagination and heart, I’ve tried to weave together stories bringing life to the universal struggle of trying to overcome our past in order to have a future. And, so began the foundations for this book –Life in a Box.
